Piano Lessons offered Online

Elevate your skills with online piano lessons

Piano lessons are offered to Beginners, Intermediate and Late-Intermediate level students, from pre-schoolers through to adults. Moreover, students, regardless of their location, access weekly online lessons from home, while being part of a dynamic online community.

There are numerous cognitive, social and life skill benefits that come from taking piano lessons. Learning to play the piano engages the brain in unique ways, enhancing memory, improving coordination, and fostering creativity.

Cognitive Benefits of Piano Lessons

One of the primary cognitive benefits of piano lessons is the development of fine motor skills and hand-eye coordination. Playing the piano requires precise finger movements and the ability to simultaneously read and interpret the information on the music page. This multitasking stimulates neural connections, enhancing overall brain function and dexterity. Furthermore, piano practice has been shown to improve mathematical abilities and spatial-temporal skills, as it involves understanding patterns, rhythms, and structures.

Piano lessons also instil important life skills such as discipline, patience, and perseverance. Mastering the piano takes time and consistent effort, teaching students the value of hard work and dedication. Regular practice routines, where the emphasis is on quality practice time versus the quantity of time practiced, help develop time management skills. The student also fosters a sense of responsibility and achievement as they gauge their progress.

Online Piano Lessons Curriculum

At Creative Music Theory, each student explores a variety of styles and genres in their repertoire, with an emphasis on the Classical tradition (Weastern Art Music: comprising music from the Baroque, Classical, Romantic and Twentieth-Century eras). Additionally, we encourage students to explore modern styles and music pieces that interest them.

The piano curriculum includes technical work such as scales and studies for finger technique. Furthermore, students actively learn music pieces that are age and level appropriate. Ear training and sight-reading exercises assist students in developing a keen sense of pitch, harmony and musical expression. The sight-reading exercises enhance their ability to read and interpret music fluently. During the lessons, we demonstrate practical aspects and piano techniques to ensure clarity and understanding of the music being studied. We provide students with verbal and written feedback and assign homework so as to ensure steady progress.

An annual online studio recital offers students a platform to showcase their performance skills and stage presence. At this event, students address the online audience, which gives them the chance to develop their communication skills and build self-confidence. Generally, such performance opportunities enable students to receive valuable feedback from their peers, family members and others.

Students can opt to participate in formal assessment opportunities, such as piano grading exams with external music institutions.

Our online piano lessons offer a convenient, effective, and enriching educational experience for students starting or advancing their musical journey.

At Creative Music Theory, we aim to inspire lifelong music appreciation and nurture artistic excellence through personalised instruction and innovative technology.
